The Network’s Mission

The Network’s mission is to defeat human trafficking networks and ultimately prevent vulnerable individuals from being exploited. We use skills honed in counterterrorism, law enforcement, the intelligence community, public policy and communications to disrupt traffickers’ business models. 

The Network is hiring a full-time, W2 Director of Development. As a front-line fundraiser, the Director of Development will lead the development and management of a portfolio of 150+ individual donors and prospects throughout the country to meet and exceed our annual funding targets. Working closely with the CEO, the Director of Development will focus on identifying and soliciting mid-level gifts (at the $5k+ level), while ensuring the CEO maintains and strengthens relationships with major donors ($25k+), guiding strategy and engagement efforts. This position will oversee the development team, including managing the Development Coordinator, whose duties include foundations and grants. A key focus of this role will be diversifying revenue streams by growing foundation and corporate giving.

This is a high-opportunity role best suited for a relational individual and self-starter. S/he is confident in making “an ask” and determined to get to a “yes.” Our ideal Director of Development candidate has 5-7 years of experience in non-profit fundraising. S/he is outgoing, optimistic, internally driven, and eager to attack unique problem sets. S/he will need to be able to operate independently with minimal direction and supervision.

The Role

Fundraising Strategy & Implementation

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to achieve annual revenue goals through individual donors and foundations.
  • Oversee and manage the CEO’s fundraising efforts, ensuring strategic donor engagement and maximizing fundraising potential.
  • Expand and diversify revenue streams with a focus on mid-level giving ($1k - $25k).
  • Identify new funding opportunities and develop strategies to maintain our excellent donor retention (>80%) and prospect acquisition.
  • Collaborate with leadership to align fundraising goals with organizational priorities and strategic initiatives.
  • Track and analyze fundraising performance, making data-driven adjustments to optimize results.

Donor Cultivation & Relationship Management

  • Independently manage and grow a portfolio of individual 150+ donors and prospects and through all phases of cultivation and solicitation with an emphasis on gifts of $5,000-$25,000.
  • Creatively lead, build, and maintain relationships with donors and prospective donors through phone, virtual, and in-person meetings and personalized outreach.
  • Research, identify, and cultivate new individual, corporate and foundation prospects. Lead proposal development and grant applications.

Donor Operations & Events Management

  • Ensure seamless donor operations, including accurate record-keeping in our CRM of donor interactions, proposals and gift history. Receive, track, and deposit all donation checks.
  • Oversee acknowledgment processes, thank you processes, and donor database management.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of fundraising events including bi-annual dinners, happy hours, and other gatherings.
  • Collaborate with program teams and leadership to develop compelling funding opportunities.
  • Develop and execute development communications strategy. Author and manage The Network’s strategic communications for donors including but not limited to the annual report, quarterly updates and marketing materials.
  • Maintain financial reporting of all development activities on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare and track any development related reports including updates to the Board of Directors, Advisory Council and Senior Leadership Team.

Experience

Required:

  • 5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising with a track record of directly raising $1M+ annually.
  • Proven success in mid-level giving strategies, foundation grants, and corporate fundraising.
  • Experience working with donors who have the capacity to make five-figure and six-figure gifts.
  • Strong relationship management skills with the ability to engage and inspire donors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in donor database management and fundraising technology.
  • Passion for The Network’s mission.

  • You must be willing to undergo The Network’s standard professional background check.
  • The Network has a hybrid work policy. We require in-person attendance at our Arlington, VA office at minimum one fixed week per quarter. For local employees, we strongly encourage on-site work 1 day per week.
  • The position will require up to 50% travel. Our current network is concentrated primarily in Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Birmingham, New York, San Francisco, and Nashville.
